Bali Real Wedding
Evelyn & Darrell
May 18, 2024
Darrell and Evelyn's love story bloomed not once, but twice. High school brought them together, but after graduation, they went on to live different lives—different universities, friend groups, and directions—unaware that their paths would eventually intertwine once more.

The Preparation at Glass House
In 2019, they reconnected and discovered that they had both experienced bad relationships and breakups around the same time. Shared stories became an unexpected bridge, their friendship a comforting haven. As they navigated through the lessons learned from past relationships, they realized how their goals seemed to align.
Darrell admired Evelyn's maturity, appreciating that their connection should develop organically rather than being driven by heartbreak or loneliness. Instead of rushing into a relationship out of fear of emotional dependency, they took things slowly, giving space for their bond to grow. With this newfound understanding, Darrell finally asked Evelyn out properly.
After conversations brimming with the shared dream of forever, Evelyn designed the perfect ring, while Darrell took over the logistics. For a year and a half, he kept the ring close, a secret mission fueled by her playful nudges and a twinkle in her eye, reminding him that a certain question was long overdue.
July 2022 marked a turning point for the couple—they were finally moving in together. By September, Darrell wanted to surprise Evelyn for her birthday. He decided to cook her a special dinner, with one rule: he had to make something he had never cooked before. He got creative, using his typewriter to craft a menu and spent extra time the day before to perfect the mousse dessert.
After a day spent at a tattoo expo with friends, Evelyn was tired and looking forward to Darrell's meal. Unbeknownst to her, Darrell had planned to propose. When dessert arrived, Evelyn was ready for bed, but Darrell seized the moment and popped the question. Evelyn burst into tears, caught off guard by his perfect little white lies. She didn't think she would cry, but she did, overwhelmed by the surprise.
The Ceremony at Tirtha Uluwatu | Chapel Wedding
Initially considering a Bali wedding as a joke, Darrell and Evelyn found that it made sense logistically for friends and family coming from Asia and Australia. After the pandemic-led lockdowns, they thought it would also be the perfect holiday for everyone.
As they weighed the pros and cons of a Bali wedding versus a Perth wedding, they concluded that a wedding in Bali with Tirtha was less complicated, offered better value for money, and most importantly, they fell in love with the Glass Chapel, which sealed the deal.
For Darrell, the emotional heart of the day lay within the chapel walls. The anticipation built as he waited for Evelyn's entrance, followed by the rush of emotions upon seeing her.
Evelyn was at first uncertain about a theme, simply wanting something elegant and understated. Together with Tirtha, they explored floral and forest motifs to complement the charm of the venue, incorporating the add-ons of lighting and specific blooms.
Her love for pink and roses intertwined with the mood board, and the Hanamizuki team, as she recounted, expertly captured her desires. Even the addition of baby's breath, a welcome surprise, complemented the overall aesthetic. The bride felt like the designers understood her unspoken wishes, translating her preferences into a beautiful reality.
"It's all in the thoughtful details," the bride remarked. "We brought in our own wedding favors with a specific typography, and the Tirtha team replicated this same font on the welcome sign and projected screen." Evelyn was especially impressed by this cohesive and deeply personal touch.

The Reception at Glass House
Grand Entrance
"It felt like a massive party but with a deeper meaning.
It wasn't every day you get to have all your friends come together."
First Dance
For Evelyn, the reception truly stole the show. Mingling with guests and witnessing their diverse friend groups blend into one big celebration filled her heart with delight.
Cake Cutting
Their decision to handle legalities beforehand also contributed to a stress-free experience. Having taken care of the paperwork on the same day Darrell asked Evelyn to be his girlfriend, they entered the wedding day with a relaxed mindset. "No bridezillas, no groomzillas," they emphasized. "Just pure enjoyment."
Their advice to other couples? Treat your wedding team with kindness. "They can go above and beyond for you if you understand your vision and communicate it," the groom shared. "And most importantly, enjoy the entire process! The hard work will pay off.”
Darrell's favorite part about the wedding is its lasting impact. Everyone, his friends and family, including himself, are still talking about it to this day. "That, to me, is the best part!"
