But what truly brought the concept to life? The guests. Adorned in traditional costumes, they transformed the celebration into a vibrant mosaic of cultures. Kimono, kebaya, Klederdracht, and even a nod to British punk made an appearance.

Given that Indonesia alone boasts 38 traditional outfits, the variety was mesmerizing. In total, 27 different cultures were represented, proving that weddings don’t just unite two people—they can unite the world. It’s especially fitting, considering Rachel and Yugo first met at a World Cup viewing party with mutual friends.

Some weddings have a theme, but Rachel and Yugo’s wedding was more than that, it was a cultural symphony. Their wedding blended four rich heritages: Dutch, English, Indonesian, and Japanese, while honoring the unique identities of every guest.

Bali was an easy choice for the bride and groom, a place to bring together both families. A visit over Christmas confirmed what they already felt, that Tirtha was the perfect place to celebrate their union. Perched atop Bali’s cliffs, Rachel and Yugo’s ceremony felt like it was floating over the ocean. Held on Tirtha’s Glass Stage, the ocean below became a seamless extension of the décor.

The ceremony leaned Japanese, with delicate paper cranes dangling from the sky, symbolizing longevity and happiness. The couple also wanted to respect the venue’s design and enhance its Japanese-Balinese aesthetics. Towering penjor, intricate Balinese bamboo weaves, greeted guests at the entrance, infusing Bali’s spiritual essence into the couple’s multicultural vision.

Cake Cutting

The couple credits their dream team for bringing this vision to life, from the modern chandelier wrapped in LED-lit greenery to the way every little detail just clicked. A special shoutout goes to Anggie, their wedding planner, who not only executed their most ‘ridiculous requests’ but also mastered the art of reading facial expressions to gage whether they truly liked something.

Multiple mirrorballs of varying sizes shimmered amidst cascading greenery and delicate florals, creating a dreamy, island-elegant, 70s-inspired party atmosphere that felt both intimate and electric.
